Category: Jewellery Making Tools

A micro-scale forming hammer for chasing and repoussé where a standard chasing hammer would swamp the work. The narrow, polished cross-pein raises fine linear detail; the small, flat round face sets and smooths it. On small-scale jewellery this is the difference between a crisp impression and a flattened one.

The black-finished steel head carries highly polished working faces for clean contact with the metal, plus a brass-coloured side inlay, and it is securely mounted to a long, lightweight wooden handle. That handle is the control mechanism: held towards the end, it delivers light, repeatable strikes with very little effort. Keep the faces polished — any mark on them prints straight into your work.

  • Features a polished, narrow cross-pein on one end and a small, flat round face on the other.
  • Black-finished steel head with highly polished working faces for clean contact with metal.
  • Long, lightweight wooden handle provides excellent balance and control for delicate strikes.
  • Designed specifically for micro-embossing and fine-detail chasing on small-scale jewellery.
  • Head is securely mounted and features a brass-coloured side inlay.

Who it's for

Ideal for UK bench jewellers, silversmiths, and metalsmiths who specialise in detailed surface decoration. Also suitable for craftspeople working on small-scale repoussé and chasing projects who require a finer tool than a standard chasing hammer.

Timothy E. ★★★★★

I was worried the face would be too small to see detail, but it actually lets me place blows with surgical precision on fine scrollwork. The polished cross-pein raises the sharp, clean lines I need for repoussé without any guesswork.

Riley F. ★★★★★

The wooden handle fits my palm perfectly, and that narrow cross-pein lets me chase fine detail work that my regular hammer just obliterated. I've been doing repoussé for years and this little tool finally gives me the control I was chasing.

Lucy L. ★★★★★

The polished cross-pein is a revelation for fine detail work—it glides through metal without catching, and the wooden handle sits perfectly balanced in my palm. I've already used it on three pendants and the raised lines are crisp and even every time.
